I’ve acquired about a dozen of A. Lakota’s reeds. I’d describe their tone as robust, with a good balance of darkness and brilliance. They’re among the best reeds I’ve received in recent years, especially for orchestral use. They’re durable; I still occasionally use ones that are many months old. They’re not entirely consistent; a couple have been a bit “honky,” without enough resistance, and others have required a bit of scraping to reduce excessive resistance. (I realize this contradicts the experience of another commentator.) Generally, though, the best of them play nicely right out of the box, and are responsive in all registers. Aaron is very accommodating and prompt in filling requests, which is important. I recommend them strongly.

I am so happy I found A. Lakota’s reeds.
Now I can just play, sing and not use my time in making reeds.

This reed was ok. It worked great for a little while, but I was never really happy with it. It played, but never “sang.”

Hi everyone,
If you are considering purchasing some of Aaron’s reeds, let me tell you that you won’t be disappointed. I have tried both the student and professional models, and they both work great — I have been playing oboe for about 10 years, and these are some of the best reeds I have played on. They are also priced reasonably at $13 for students. You can also expect a lot of consistency from these reeds — I have ordered about 10 reeds so far and they all played roughly the same out of the box. The bottom line is that I highly recommend these reeds because they consistently work well, and they are priced reasonably.
